Teacher Jailed In Sudan

The teacher who got into trouble for calling a teddy Mohammad is going to jail, for 15 days. It's like sending someone to jail for calling a teddy bear Jesus. There are people called Jesus, and it's ok to call a teddy bear Jesus. But they chose to misinterpret her actions. So it's jail and deportation.

The lesson here is that just because you're in a country to help and do good, don't expect that to count for anything. The sacrifice may go beyond just your time. Also, it seems that volunteers seem to get a raw deal in countries of a particular religion. So, don't complain if something happens to you. Nobody asked you to go there.

More Injuries

5 French policemen in critical condition. When is Sarkozy going to wake up and authorize proper force? Hooligans must be dealt with firmly - with a bullet or two.

Rioting In France

I get the feeling that the police in France are hamstrung. When it comes to hooligans and law-breakers, they should impose a curfew, shoot first and ask questions later. If you don't want to kill, shoot the legs. I really hate these liberal democracies. Shit.
I wouldn't be surprised if the police didn't stop to render assistance. They would have been attacked by residents. They did the right thing.

Ahmadinejad In New York

I'm just speculating here. A guy that lots of Americans hate is going to be in New York. It's the job of the police to ensure his safety (right). Many people have watched the cool show 'Shooter'.

I'm wondering, how hard will the police try to protect this heathen? Might there be a CIA plot to off the guy? Opportunity of a lifetime. They'll probably frame some sucker. C'mon USA, time to play dirty with the dirty boys.

Bus 174

Just watched the documentary 'Bus 174'. It's about a hostage situation on a bus in Brazil. It's also about the plight of the 'street children'. I was expecting a lot, this was the no. 1 movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Very disappointed.

The situation made no sense at all. The police sharpshooters had numerous chances to end it but were not given the go-ahead. Not sure if the idiot responsible was the governor or the chief of police. Anyway, it all boils down to failed government. Not much you can do about that.

Citizen Reporting

The citizen reporter caught some filthy anti-social bastards at Blk 107 Simei Street 1. Too bad I didn't catch the bastards red-handed.

Just watched season 1 of 'Heroes'. Very exciting series. I highly recommend it.

Bad Behavior On Roads

I was very happy to read the Straits Times editorial highlighting failure to signal and the absence of traffic police on the roads. I've been going on about this for the longest time. But then, I'm not the Editor of Straits Times. If no action is taken after this, then we must conclude political expedience, i.e. don't piss off the voters. The corollary of that is that our votes do mean something.

Which is a shame. Democracy is rule by the mob. No good can come of it.

The South Koreans being murdered in Afghanistan are martyrs. Let's hope God is listening and opens up a divine can of whupass on these heathens.

Osim In Trouble

Woohoo! Osim lost money! Are the people waking up? Maybe.

Anyway, the founder has already locked in his profits (by floating the company, Einstein). The losers are the shareholders. Dumbos.

Analysis: I've always wondered why anyone would pay $7000 for something that cost less than $1000 to manufacture. Maybe the suckers are starting to wonder too.

Pictures

Took some photos using my Sony Ericsson K800i. I'm pretty impressed by the picture quality.
These are pictures of condos around my place: Village Tower, under construction (not sure about the name), The Marbella, Fontana Heights, Astor Green, Leighwoods, Cavendish Park and Beaverton Court. Some cupboards in V Hive. My mom's new 46 inch LCD and home theatre. Sweet.

The European Union's envoy to Malaysia, Thierry Rommel, was blasted by the Malaysians for commenting on the NEP. Rightly so.
I'm serious. Without the NEP, Malaysia's economy would be easily five times it's present size and Singapore would be in serious trouble.
So Mr Rommel, things are not always black-and-white.

Remember Sodom And Gomorrah

Gay rights activists and Barack Obama have criticized the nomination of Dr James Holsinger as Surgeon General. This was for saying that anal sex was unnatural. Duh!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to come to that conclusion, and to be criticized for saying it is just mind boggling.

Let's just hope no latter day Lot offers his daughters to these people.

The Pink Dollar

As a Christian (albeit nominal), the Bible tells me (in no uncertain terms) that homosexuality is bad. It is a sin. I really don't know how some people can reinterpret that part.

Personally, my stand is tolerance. No witch hunts, but they have to stay in the closet. No flaunting of homosexuality in Singapore. I'm sure a majority of Singaporeans feel this way.

I propose that the national attitude to homosexuality be determined by a referendum. That's democracy.

Aesthetic Medicine

Quite a few doctors are making the news because of aesthetic medicine. Georgia Lee for having a clientele of stars and making pots of money (understatement). Another guy for owning 2 supercars. I'm sure there are many more who shun the limelight.

I have nothing against these doctors making tons of money. It's all supply and demand. It is not without risk, though. Firstly, aesthetic medicine is not traditional medicine. I would go so far as to say it's not medicine, since you're not curing a sickness. Secondly, aesthetic physicians are invading the turf of plastic surgeons and dermatologist. Some are even doing face lifts and liposuction!

The malpractice insurance for aesthetic medicine is $24,000 a year. As a 'normal' GP, I pay about $1,500. Question is, does the insurance really protect you? If the patient isn't ill, any harm inflicted is viewed more seriously. Also, it might not be easy to find an expert witness (i.e. plastic surgeon or dermatologist) to testify on your behalf in court.

Because of the huge potential earnings, more and more GPs are venturing into aesthetic medicine and shunning traditional GP work. I don't blame them. In fact, I encourage the trend. My mom has scolded me for being stupid and idealistic for refusing to do aesthetic medicine. Too bad.

Recently, the Singapore Medical Council has convened a committee to look into aesthetic medicine. It comprises GPs, plastic surgeons and dermatologists. I sense a clampdown coming up...

Hardliners In Iran

I fully support the crackdown on 'immorality' in Iran. If they piss the younger people off, they may get overthrown by people power. Then Israel won't have to start WWIII over their nuclear program.

Too bad Ahmadinejad doesn't agree fully with the crackdown.

America In Iraq

Regarding the quagmire in Iraq, I can think of 2 options:

1. Partition Iraq into 3 countries, proportionate to population size (Shiite, Sunni and Kurd). Have the UN control the oil revenue and distribute it proportionately. Build walls if necessary to keep them apart. Voila!

2. Install a caretaker government with a strongman in charge. Leave. Threaten to come back and knock heads if elections are not held or if an Islamic government takes hold. Rinse and repeat.

Both ways, American troops are not put in harm's way for long.

Phillip Yeo Ousted

Now that Phillip Yeo is out of AStar (or whatever it's called), we can guess who had the 'power'. Maybe he'll be nicer to people now. I'm a firm believer in treating everyone equally.

People who ignore the office cleaner or security guard reveal poor character.

Walk The Walk

If I chose to be a pastor, I certainly wouldn't tool around in a luxury car. Money beyond 'enough' should go to charity. At the very least, I would not flaunt it.

American Idol's Sanjaya

When it's not one-man-one-vote, and you have to pay to vote. Any election can be bought. Looks like the guys who are trying to destroy AI are going to succeed.

Virginia Tech Shooting

How many people have to die before enough people hate guns enough to ban them in America?

Hard Candy

I've just watched 'Hard Candy'. I'm no paedophile, but I was rooting for the guy all the way. Somehow I just didn't like the girl. He seemed to behave quite honorably but she entrapped him.

They should have made it clear from the beginning that he was a bad guy. Showed some of the disgusting stuff he's supposed to be guilty off.

I also found it rather unbelievable that he got loose 3 times and failed to kill her. Lousy plot.

You Know America Is In Trouble When...

I just wanted to shake my head and laugh when US General Pace was criticized for saying that homosexuality was immoral. Reminds of Sodom and Gomorrah...

Philip Yeo & Dr Lee

Reading about this public spat between Philip Yeo and Dr Lee Wei Ling, I wondered where MM Lee stood on the issue. I was thinking that Dr Lee wouldn't speak out unless she had the approval of her Dad, unless MM Lee is open-minded with regards to her. Anyway, I tend to agree with her. I have to admire her for calling a spade a spade in her past statements (doesn't hurt to be MM Lee's daughter). Not many people can speak with impunity. I was surprised at the churlish reply she got from Mr Yeo. Hehe. His heavy handed responses remind me of Durai.

I remember the hoo-ha over bond-breakers. If you don't want people to break their bonds, don't have a hypocritical penalty clause. Or make it exorbitant. I wonder if he knew that he'd insulted some important people in the process (no names).
